1914/15 Trio to 11174 L/SJT J R Pattison W Rid R / Killed 7/7/16
John Reginald Pattison was born in Redcar, North Yorkshire. He lived and worked in South Bank, Middleborough.
Pattison enlisted in Middlesbrough, joining the West Riding Regiment. He was sadly killed in action while serving with the 9th battalion, on the 7th July 1916. The battalion was conducting operations at Contalmaison.
Medal index card and roll confirms the medals, he had landed in France on 15th July 1915. Medal index card states Star was returned for correction to the rank on 26th August 1920 and returned 11th October 1920. I can find no evidence of a correction. There is an official correction to the second initial the British war medal. Perhaps a mix up from the person writing the card out? Or the Star could have been scrapped and a new one issued. The star is an original and correctly impressed.
A letter online shows that Pattison taught bombing, one of his pupils misthrow a grenade and badly injured himself. A court of enquiry took place. The letter will be included.
