Correctly impressed - 4188166 RFN R Nelson Cameronians. ( correction to the last two digits in service numbers and last four lets in regt)

Included with the group are nine original photographs of his time in Malaya / Singapore;  Original Soldiers service & Pay Book; Regular Army Certificate of Service Book, Pray Book, Ballon parachute course list;  1947/48 News Years Ball dance list and shooting medal engraved ' HQ Coy Cameronians L/C Nelson. 

 

Richard Nelson was born in Blackhill, Durham, on the 29th of May, 1928. He was a Bricklayer by trade and enlisted in the Army on the 7th March 1946, joining the 1st Bn of the Cameronians. 

 

He trained as a Piper and was very well regarded from the remarks in his red book. His character and conduct were assessed as exemplary. It was noted that he was a capable leader of men, having commanded a section in Malaya as a Corporal on his second tour. 

 

Transferred to the reserves on 9th June 1953, he was discharged on 6th March 1958.
