Nathan Parkin was born in Copley, Durham in 1896. In civilian life he worked as a Driver in the Mines. At the time of the 1911 census he was living with his family at 12 Steavenson Street, Bowburn.

When the war broke out, Nathan enlisted in Sunderland, joining the 26^th Bn of the Northumberland Fusiliers, 3^rd Tyneside Irish. On the 1^st of July 1916, the first day of the Battle of the Somme, the Bn took part in the attack on La Boisselle.

Nathan was tragically killed in action during the attack. He is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial.
