Thomas Fleming was born in Woodkirk, Yorkshire. He was a Miner in civilian life, Fleming enlisted on the 21st of September 1914 joining the 9th Bn York and Lancaster Regiment.

He landed in France with his bn on the 27th of August 1915. On the 1st of July 1916, the Bn took part in the attack on Ovillers, they suffered horrendous casualties by Machine Gun Fire from Thiepval Spur. Thomas was hit in the abdomen and died of his wounds on the 3rd of July 1916. He is buried in Warloy – Baillon Communal Cemetery Extension.
