Memorial Plaque to John William Negus / Liverpool Pals

In slightly polished condition, looks better in hand.

John William Negus was born in Northampton in 1897, he lived in Crewe and at the time of the 1911 census lived at 25 Stewart Street.

In civilian life he was a fitter’s apprentice, aged 17 but giving his age as 19 years and 3 days, he attested at Liverpool on the 4^th of September 1914. He became a member of the 19^th bn The Liverpool Regiment, The 3^rd City Pals, service number 21578.

Posted to France on the 7^th of November 1915, he was wounded on the 2^nd of July 1916 but remained at duty. The Bn between 1^st to 4^th July 1916 acted as brigade carriers. On the 13^th of July he was appointed Lance Corporal, tragically on the 30^th of July 1916 he was killed in action during the attack on Arrow Head Copse.
