A collection of Great War Medals belonging to three brothers SOMLI / Devons

THE GROUP IS ON HOLD, BECAUSE THE FAMILY HAVE FOUND THE MISSING 1914/15 STAR AND ARE FORWARDING IT ON TO ME TO REUNITE THE GROUP.

Direct from the family, the first time the medals have been on the market.

Cyril Valentine Margetts was the eldest of the three brothers born in 1891 in Bletchingdon, Oxfordshire. The son of Henry Edward and Eva Florence. William was born in 1892 in Bletchingdon and Henry Edward Jr was born in 1897 in Minehead, Somerset.

Cyril was a pre war regular, having joined the army in September 1908. He was stationed in India in 1913 and saw service there and in Western Asia during the Great War. He survived and was discharged in 1919. In 1926 he joined the territorial and served a further 4 years.  In civilian life he worked as an Electrician and passed away in 1952.

William was a Papermaker by trade, at the time of the 1911 census he was living with his family at Hele Street, Cullompton, Budlake, Exeter.

A member of the 2^nd Bn The Devonshire Regiment, William landed in France on the 6^th of November 1914. He was sadly killed in action on the 11^th of March 1915 and is remembered on Le Touret Memorial

Henry Edward enlisted aged 17, joining the 8^th Bn of the Somerset light Infantry. He landed in France on the 11^th of October 1915 and is entitled to a 1914/15 which isn’t present. He was sadly killed in action aged 18 on the 3^rd of September 1916. He was laid to rest in Lonsdale Cemetery, Authuille.
